India announced a new Laptop initiative crushing the OLPC program's rock-bottom price of $100 per laptop.
R.P. Agrawal, secretary of secondary and higher education, said last week that the cost of the laptop was about $20 a unit, and that expected that to fall. He also said he expected the units to be commercially available in six months. My suspicion is that the laptop will actually be a Network Node - i.e. not have software embedded, and work in a local "cloud" suitable for Universities or IT networked schools.
